Godfrey began publically singing at the age of approx. 18 years old, eventually became a member of a Choir known as The Merry bell Gospel Choir, where he was also sang as a soloist.
Godfrey won The Stevie Wonder Award in 1989 for Best Male Gospel Choir Soloist. This afforded him the privilege to both meet and share the stage with the Maestro himself during his appearance at the NEC.
Godfrey has made several television appearances. One in particular is his appearance on Channel 4’s People Get Ready. It was at this recording that his talent was noticed by those who were considered as the UK’s foremost respected leaders of Gospel Music among the Gospel fraternity and was, invited to play the part of Christ in a production called ‘Creation’, which was aired on channel 4‘s ‘People Get Ready Easter special’.
During his singing career he has worked alongside well known artistes such as; The Winans, (Father and Uncles of Mario Winans), Commissioned, Billy Gaines, Michael Bolton, Westlife and Heather Small to name a few.
Godfrey Gayle was a member of the duo Hutchinson & Gayle, who in 2003 won the GMTV Gospel Competition. On the back of which they were crowned Best Gospel Newcomers at the MOBO Awards ceremony. Having won this prestigious award they were offered a recording contract with Integrity Music, the largest distributors of Gospel Music today.
Godfrey is involved in a substantial amount of studio recording sessions for various artists.
Godfrey is a self contained vocalist singing the legendary Motown Classics and Soul classic ballads, occasionally throwing in a few gospel numbers for good measure. He also does an excellent Stevie Wonder Tribute act.
