Jem Brent was born in Telford, England and after winning the All-England Tap Dancing Championship at the mere age of 12, knew his vocation was in musical theatre.

At 16 Jem turned down a place at one of London’s top musical theatre schools to perform for one of the UK’s leading holiday park companies where he was soon engaged as lead dancer and vocalist.

In 1991 after winning a major tap dancing competition in Bristol, Jem was personally asked to audition for the English National Tour of “42nd Street” where he began his musical career performing alongside Bonnie Langford.

During his twenties, Jem appeared in many musical productions such as “Cinderella”, “Jack and The Beanstalk”, “A Handful of Keys”, “Lord Delfont- A Tribute” and “Cannon and Balls Summer Spectacular” and has appeared alongside a whole variety of stars including Bradley Walsh, Ruth Madoc, Trevor Bannister, Gale Blakeney, Michael Flatley, Mark Curry, Wayne Dobson, Joan Collins and Barbara Windsor.

Jem’s dancing ability and amazing voice took him to Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita” starring Marti Webb. He became Assistant Dance Captain and was Performance Director in later shows.

Whilst appearing as the roller skating Cookie Monster in the European Tour of “Sesame Street Live” Jem caught the skating bug and in 1997 moved to Germany to play Dustin in “Starlight Express”. Following this Jem went on to play his favourite role to date: Riff Raff in “The Rocky Horror Show”.

In 1999 he was cast in the original German production of “Rent” where he covered both the lead roles of Mark and Roger and was the first person ever to cover the entire ensemble. Whilst performing in “Rent” the cast were asked to appear in one of Germanys largest rock festivals and Jem was lucky enough to share the stage with some of the World’s greatest artists such as Robbie Williams, Lauren Hill, Brian Adams and Alanis Morrisette.

Jem then joined the original German cast of “Saturday Night Fever” as Jay and later taking over the role of Monty before finally becoming the company’s Assistant Resident Director.
Jem has always enjoyed combining his work as a performer onstage with his work as a director and choreographer behind the scenes, and this was never more apparent when he worked on three separate productions of “Crazy For You”. First, in Germany as Assistant Director, then restaging the show for its Austrian debut, finally again in Austria, playing the role of Zangler.

In 2003 he joined the original European cast, in the revival of “42nd Street” playing Billy Lawlor and was lucky enough to appear with the cast on one of Germany’s top television shows alongside Kelly and Ozzy Osbourne, Elijah Wood and Kylie Minogue.

Jem has also been seen on many other television shows such as This Morning, Live and Kicking, Rich Deceiver, Pebble Mill and The Big Breakfast show and countless appearances on European TV.

Jem has also recorded many albums including the original German cast recording of “Rent”, “The Rocky Horror Show” and “Saturday Night Fever”, “Someone’s Waiting”, “Musical Medleys” for AB records as well as his own album “Stage and Screen”.
