Salford-born Anita undoubtedly has one of the biggest voices in the north west and is probably one the regions best-kept secrets too. She has a huge soulful talent that belies her 5ft 4in frame!
Brought up by her talented parents who where themselves musicians, music was what carried Anita’s large Irish family through years where money was tight and performing was all they had. She says: I recall how at seven Id stare up at my mum and dad on stage, I just knew I would follow in the their footsteps one day.
Her first paid performance was as a 16-year-old singer in a 40-piece gospel choir which took her across Europe on sell-out tours. A year later Anita made the move into solo singing with the help of private vocal tuition from the Manchester School of Music.
Various session singing roles followed and in 1999 Anita landed her first solo tour, supporting American soul singer Edwin Starr. Anita says: Supporting a US soul star gave me the much needed experience of working with a live audience. I found out early on that I could capture their emotions and keep them in the palm of my hand.
Anitas skill was undeniable and this led to her fronting bands from all over the world. The ease with which she performs soulful classics, combined with a fantastic personality has won Anita the role of guest entertainer on various cruise liners, along with headlining high profile corporate events in St Tropez, Cannes and Amsterdam.
